People rarely type just a trade and the town. So the same evening, we ran 12 of the searches Google suggests, with words like “emergency”, “open now” and “mobile”.

The searches, and what Google’s map showed

mobile hairdresser nenagh20 businesses, mostly salons. None had “mobile” in its name.

Google Maps for “emergency plumber nenagh”. A heating contractor and a plumbing supply store came first and second. A pub made the top four. Names, addresses and phone numbers blurred.

What it means: when Google shows a pub for “emergency plumber” and salons for “mobile hairdresser”, the right businesses are thin on the map. A clear profile and one good page can stand out. If you do emergency call-outs or home visits, list them on your profile and give each one its own page.

Around Nenagh: Roscrea, Borrisokane, Toomevara, Newport and Ballina

Many Nenagh businesses also work in the towns around it. So we searched five of them for electricians, plumbers and hairdressers, with “Co. Tipperary” added so Google knew where we meant. We also checked Killaloe, across the bridge from Ballina.

What it means: in Thurles, trades that show for the town also won the villages around it. Around Nenagh, they mostly don’t. If you work in Roscrea, Newport or Ballina, set a service area that covers them. Then give each one a page, with jobs you’ve done there.

Nenagh and Thurles: same county, a different bar

We ran the same check in Thurles on 24 October. Nenagh is the bigger town, with 9,895 people to Thurles’ 8,185. Across the 31 searches with three or more businesses in both towns, Nenagh’s bar was higher for 15 and lower for 14. The big gaps depend on the trade.

The middle of the three review counts, as Google Maps showed them on 29 October (Nenagh) and 24 October (Thurles) 2026.

So the target depends on your trade and your town. A dentist in Nenagh needs more reviews than one in Thurles. A hairdresser or barber needs fewer. See the full check on our SEO in Thurles page.

Why your Nenagh business isn’t showing on Google Maps

    • Fewer reviews than the middle businessCheck the three on the map for your own search. The middle one is your first target, not the leader.
    • The wrong main categoryA plumbing supply store won “plumber” and petrol stations won “heating oil”. The category tells Google what you are. See choosing your Google Business Profile category.
    • A pin in the wrong placeIf your pin or Eircode is off, Google can’t place you in the town. See Eircode not showing on Google Maps.
    • No service area for the towns you coverIn our check, Nenagh firms didn’t make the top three in Roscrea, Borrisokane, Newport or Ballina.
    • Hours that don’t match the searchPeople search “open now”, “open Sunday” and “24 hour”. At 8pm on a Thursday, “open now” took the town’s most-reviewed salon out of the list.
    • One page for everythingA single services page can’t rank for every job and every town. Each one needs its own page.
