SEO for roofers in Ireland
When slates come off or the ceiling drips, people ring one of the three roofers on Google’s map. We checked who gets those spots in 12 Irish towns. We also checked what changes for “roof repair” searches. Then we build the pages that win the bigger jobs too: re-roofs, flat roofs and chimneys.

The searches your customers type
People search for the problem, the job or the place. These are the kinds of searches a roofing business should be winning:
Repairs are decided in minutes on the map, often the morning after a storm. Re-roofs and flat roofs are planned for weeks. Those customers compare photos, prices and reviews on your website before they ring.
What it takes to make the top three on the map: we checked 12 Irish towns
On 22 and 23 October 2026 we searched “roofer” and the town in 12 Irish towns, from Dublin to Letterkenny. We noted the three roofers Google showed on the map and the seven that came next. The three on the map had a median of 43 reviews. The next seven had 26.
- The bar depends on the townThe middle roofer on the map had 3 reviews in Waterford and Letterkenny. It had 4 in Sligo, 104 in Cork, 124 in Limerick and 438 in Dublin. In Waterford, Letterkenny and Sligo, two of the three on the map had 4 reviews or fewer.
- Dublin and Cork are a different gameAll ten roofers we saw in Dublin had at least 66 reviews. 9 of the 10 showed as open 24 hours. In Cork, all ten did.
- Open 24 hours is the norm25 of the 36 roofers on the map showed as open 24 hours. For electricians it was 13 of 36, and for plumbers 14 of 48.
- The most-reviewed roofer usually made itThe most-reviewed roofer in each town’s top ten made the map in 10 of 12 towns. That’s more often than for plumbers or electricians.
- Almost everyone used Roofing contractor34 of the 36 had Roofing contractor as their main category. The other two used Construction company.
- You don’t need a shopfront14 of the 36 hid their address and showed a service area instead. 32 of the 36 had a website. Our guide to a Google profile without a shopfront shows how to set that up.
Check your town
Pick your town and put in how many Google reviews you have. We’ll show you what the roofers on the map had on the day of our check.
Counts as Google showed them on 22 and 23 October 2026, for “roofer” and the town. Results change from day to day and depend on where the searcher is.
Behind on reviews? Our guide on how to get more Google reviews works out how long catching up takes. It also shows how to ask inside Google’s rules.
| Town | The three on the map, in order | Middle of the three | Median, places 4 to 10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Letterkenny | 3, 18, 1 | 3 | 0 |
| Waterford | 2, 40, 3 | 3 | 13 |
| Sligo | 116, 4, 2 | 4 | 3 |
| Kilkenny | 55, 2, 30 | 30 | 8 |
| Mullingar | 31, 246, 4 | 31 | – |
| Ennis | 21, 33, 40 | 33 | 6 |
| Athlone | 49, 40, 41 | 41 | 40 |
| Drogheda | 44, 104, 5 | 44 | 27 |
| Galway | 61, 129, 83 | 83 | 27 |
| Cork | 171, 90, 104 | 104 | 57 |
| Limerick | 124, 69, 129 | 124 | 24 |
| Dublin | 244, 438, 440 | 438 | 109 |
Lowest middle figure first. Paid listings and business names left out. In Mullingar, Google showed only three roofers.
Repair searches go to the same roofers
We also searched “roof repair” in six towns: Cork, Galway, Limerick, Kilkenny, Sligo and Mullingar. 12 of the 18 roofers on the map were also in the top three for a plain “roofer” search. 15 of the 18 showed as open 24 hours.
| Search, in the same six towns | Of the 18 on the map, open 24 hours | Median reviews of the 18 |
|---|---|---|
| roofer + town | 12 | 76 |
| roof repair + town | 15 | 86 |
For electricians, an emergency search brought in different firms. For roofers, a repair search mostly reshuffled the same ones. The bar went up, not down. Roofers who win the plain search tend to win the urgent one too. They have reviews, honest hours and repairs listed on their profile.
After a storm, people ring the first roofer who answers. Some businesses put “24 hour” or “emergency” in their name. Google’s rules for business names only allow that if it’s your real name. That means the name on your van, signage and paperwork. Do it the safe way instead:
- Your number firstAt the top of your repairs page and on every screen as you scroll, so it’s one tap away.
- Honest hoursOnly set “Open 24 hours” if someone really answers at night. If you take calls until 9pm and get out at first light, say exactly that.
- Storm work in your servicesSlipped and missing slates, leaks, flashing, chimneys and gutters, each listed as a service on your Google profile.
- Proof you’re the real thingAfter Storm Éowyn in January 2025, Gardaí warned that bogus tradespeople would try to cash in on the damage. Your business name, area, insurance and photos of your own jobs show careful homeowners you’re not a doorstep caller.
- What you give for the insurerIf you provide photos and a written quote for an insurance claim, say so. It’s often the first question after a storm.
A roofer’s year
Most roofing businesses will recognise this pattern. Pages need to be live a few weeks before each rush, because Google takes time to find and trust them.

Why you might not be showing up
- Fewer reviews than the roofers above youThe three on the map had a median of 43 reviews, against 26 for the next seven. In Dublin, every roofer in the top ten had at least 66.
- Hours that hide you from urgent searches25 of the 36 roofers on the map showed as open 24 hours. If you do answer out of hours, make sure your profile says so; if you don’t, say when you do.
- The wrong main category34 of the 36 used Roofing contractor. A builder’s category doesn’t connect you with “roofer” and “roof repair” searches.
- One page for every jobA single services page can’t rank for storm repairs, flat roofs and re-roofing all at once. Our free topical map checker shows which pages you’re missing.
- No photos of your own roofsPeople want to see real jobs, before and after. Stock photos look like everyone else, and that’s exactly who they’re trying to avoid.
What’s different for Irish roofers
- Storms bring the work in wavesA named storm can bring weeks of work in a few days. Pages that are live before the winter rank when it matters.
- Homeowners are wary of doorstep roofersGardaí tell people not to let in callers they didn’t contact. Being easy to find, check and ring is the opposite of a cold call, and it wins the work.
- CIRI registration is coming inRegistration with the Construction Industry Register Ireland becomes mandatory in phases from 2026. It starts with builders of larger housing developments. If you’re already registered, show it.
- Irish words for Irish roofsSlates, flashing, valleys, fascia and soffits, felt flat roofs, chimney pots. Pages written the way people here describe the problem match how they search.

Example: the first three months for a roofing firm in Athlone
A typical plan for a small crew doing repairs, flat roofs and a few re-roofs a year. In our check, the three roofers on the map in Athlone had 49, 40 and 41 reviews.
Month 1: fix the map
- Set the main category to Roofing contractor and add Gutter cleaning service as a secondary category
- List every service, from slipped slates to flat roof repairs
- Hide the home address, set the service area and show honest hours
- Add photos of finished roofs and set up call tracking on the profile and website
Month 2: pages that win work
- Split the services page into storm repairs, flat roofs and re-roofing
- Add a page on chimney and flashing repairs
- Ask every customer from the last six months for a review, aiming for 50
- Match the details on Golden Pages, Bing and Apple Maps
Month 3: get ready for the storms
- Publish the storm damage page before the first named storm
- Write a short page on what to do when slates come off, starting with staying off the roof
- Compare calls with month one
- Plan re-roofing content for the spring

Something else on your mind? Email info@leadsireland.com.
How many Google reviews does a roofer need to get on the map?
Roughly as many as the middle roofer in your town’s top three. In our check of 12 Irish towns, that ranged from 3 reviews to 438. Waterford and Letterkenny were lowest, Dublin highest. The three on the map had a median of 43 reviews. The roofers just below them had 26.
Should my Google profile say I’m open 24 hours?
Only if someone really answers. 25 of the 36 roofers on the map in our check showed as open 24 hours. So it clearly matters for urgent searches. But hours that promise too much lead to missed calls and angry reviews. Those hurt far more than honest hours.
Is “roof repair” a different search from “roofer”?
Mostly the same roofers win both. We checked six towns. 12 of the 18 on the map for “roof repair” were also top three for “roofer”. List repairs on your profile and give them their own page. That helps you hold both.
Do I need a website to show up on Google Maps?
No, but it helps. 32 of the 36 roofers on the map in our check had a website. Bigger jobs like re-roofs and flat roofs are mostly won by pages. Those pages show photos of real jobs, a rough price and what’s included.
Should I show my address on Google or hide it?
If customers don’t come to your premises, hide the address. Set a service area instead. Google asks service-area businesses to do this. 14 of the 36 roofers on the map in our check had their address hidden.
How do I stand out from cowboy roofers after a storm?
Make it easy to check you’re real. Show your business name and area, photos of your own jobs, your insurance, and reviews that mention the work. Gardaí warned about bogus tradespeople after Storm Éowyn. Careful homeowners look for exactly these signs.
Which category should I choose on my Google profile?
Roofing contractor: 34 of the 36 roofers on the map in our check used it. If gutters or chimneys are a big part of your work, add a matching secondary category.
How long does SEO take for a roofer?
Fixes to your Google profile and website start in week 1. On an established site, leads usually pick up within about a month. A new website takes longer, so allow two to three months, and start well before the winter.
