SEO for electricians in Ireland

When the power goes, people ring one of the three electricians on Google’s map. We checked who gets those spots in 12 Irish towns. We also checked what changes for “emergency electrician” searches. Then we build the pages that win the planned work too: rewires, EV chargers and solar panels.

The searches your customers type

People search for the problem, the job or the place. These are the kinds of searches an electrical contractor should be winning:

Some of these are emergencies, decided in minutes on the map. Others are planned for weeks: a rewire, an EV charger or solar panels. These often depend on an SEAI grant. Those customers read your website closely before they ring.

What it takes to make the top three on the map: we checked 12 Irish towns

On 22 and 23 October 2026 we searched “electrician” and the town in 12 Irish towns, from Dublin to Letterkenny. We noted the three electricians Google showed on the map and the seven that came next. The three on the map had a median of 32 reviews. The next seven had 9.

  • The bar depends on the townThe middle electrician on the map had 7 reviews in Letterkenny and 361 in Dublin. It had 10 in Athlone and Kilkenny, 104 in Limerick and 274 in Cork. In all 8 towns outside Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick, it was under 40.
  • The most reviews didn’t always winThe most-reviewed electrician in each town’s top ten made the map in 8 of 12 towns. In Mullingar, an electrician with 200 reviews came eighth, and one with 3 reviews came first. Google also weighs how relevant you are and how far you are from the person searching.
  • Solar and EV firms take electrician spotsFor a plain “electrician” search, a solar company made the top three in Ennis. In Galway, an EV charger installer did. Shops crowd in lower down. An electronics store with 534 reviews came eighth in Athlone.
  • You don’t need a shopfront16 of the 36 hid their address and showed a service area instead. Our guide to a Google profile without a shopfront shows how to set that up.
  • Almost everyone used the Electrician category31 of the 36 had Electrician as their main category. The rest used Electrical installation service, Electrical engineer, Solar energy company or Electric vehicle charging station contractor.
  • A website helps, but it isn’t required28 of the 36 had a website, so 8 made the map without one.

We looked closer at one city. Our guide on how to rank as an electrician in Cork covers five Cork towns, EV charger searches and the Safe Electric register.

    Emergency searches pick different electricians

We also searched “emergency electrician” in six towns: Cork, Galway, Limerick, Kilkenny, Sligo and Mullingar. 18 electricians made the map. Only 4 of them were also in the top three for a plain “electrician” search. 15 of the 18 were open 24 hours.

Reviews counted for less. In Limerick, the first electrician on the map had no reviews at all. It showed as open 24 hours. In Kilkenny, an appliance repair firm made the three. Google matches the search words against your profile. An electrician who is open now and clearly offers emergency work has the edge.

Some businesses put “24 hour” or “emergency” in their name. Google’s rules for business names only allow that if it’s your real name. That means the name on your van, signage and paperwork. Profiles that add keywords can be suspended, and if yours already has been, our free Profile Rescue Kit shows you how to get it back. Do it the safe way instead:

    • Your number firstAt the top of your emergency page and on every screen as you scroll, so it’s one tap away.
    • Honest hoursIf you take calls until 10pm or at weekends, say exactly that, on the page and on your profile. Only set “Open 24 hours” if someone really answers at 3am.
    • Emergency work in your servicesList power cuts, trip switches that won’t reset, burning smells and dead sockets. Add each one as a service on your Google profile.
    • A clear call-out feeOr a “from” price, so nobody is surprised at the door.
    • Help for when it isn’t your jobTell people to check if the neighbours have power too. Give them the ESB Networks fault line: 1800 372 999. It saves a wasted trip. It also shows you know your job.

    What’s different for Irish electricians

    • Customers can check you on Safe ElectricThe CRU tells homeowners to always use a Registered Electrical Contractor. It points them to the Safe Electric website to find one. Show your registration on your Google profile, website and van.
    • The Completion Certificate is part of the jobA registered contractor must give the customer a Completion Certificate for work in their home. Say so on your rewire and fuse board pages, because careful customers look for it.
    • Grants drive EV and solar workSEAI’s home charger grant is up to €300. It needs a Safe Electric registered electrician. The solar grant starts with appointing an SEAI-registered solar PV company. A page that walks through the grant steps wins those jobs. If solar is most of your work, see SEO for solar installers.
    • Irish words for Irish homesFuse board, trip switch, immersion, storage heaters, the ESB. Pages written the way people here describe the problem match how they search.

Why you might not be showing up

    • Fewer reviews than the electricians above youThe three on the map had a median of 32 reviews. The next seven had 9. In 8 of our 12 towns, the middle one had fewer than 40. The gap is often smaller than it looks.
    • Nothing for emergency searches to matchFor “emergency electrician”, 15 of the 18 on the map were open 24 hours. If your hours and services don’t mention emergency work, Google has nothing to match.
    • The wrong main category31 of the 36 electricians on the map used Electrician. A merchant’s or general builder’s category doesn’t connect you with electrician searches.
    • One page for every jobA single services page can’t rank for EV chargers, rewires and solar panels all at once. Our free topical map checker shows which pages you’re missing.
    • No sign you’re registeredIf people can’t see you’re a Registered Electrical Contractor, the careful ones ring someone who shows it.

Example: the first three months for an electrical contractor in Drogheda

A typical plan for a three-person firm doing domestic work, EV chargers and emergency call-outs. In our check, the three electricians on the map in Drogheda had 177, 37 and 34 reviews.

    1. Month 1: fix the map

      • Set the main category to Electrician and add Electric vehicle charging station contractor as a secondary category
      • List every service, from fault finding to fuse board upgrades
      • Hide the home address, set the service area and show honest hours
      • Show the Safe Electric registration and set up call tracking on the profile and website
    2. Month 2: pages that win work

      • Split the services page into emergency call-outs, rewires and fuse boards, and EV chargers
      • Add a page that walks through the SEAI home charger grant
      • Ask every customer from the last three months for a review, aiming for 40
      • Match the details on Golden Pages, Bing and Apple Maps
    3. Month 3: get ready for winter

      • Publish the emergency page before the winter storms
      • Write a short page on what to do in a power cut
      • Compare calls with month one
      • Plan solar content for the spring

    Questions people ask

Something else on your mind? Email info@leadsireland.com.

How many Google reviews does an electrician need to get on the map?

Roughly as many as the middle electrician in your town’s top three. In our check of 12 Irish towns, that ranged from 7 reviews in Letterkenny to 361 in Dublin. The three on the map had a median of 32 reviews. The electricians just below them had 9.

Why do different electricians show up for “emergency electrician”?

Google matches the search against your profile, including your hours and services. We checked “emergency electrician” in six towns. Only 4 of the 18 electricians on the map were also in the top three for “electrician”. 15 of the 18 were open 24 hours.

Can I put “emergency electrician” in my Google business name?

Only if it’s your real business name, as it appears on your van, signage and paperwork. Google’s rules don’t allow extra keywords in the name, and profiles that add them can be suspended. List emergency work in your services, description and hours, and give it its own page instead.

Do I need a website to show up on Google Maps?

No, but it helps. 8 of the 36 electricians on the map in our check had no website. Planned work is different. Rewires, EV chargers and solar panels are mostly won by pages that explain the job, price and grant.

Should I show my address on Google or hide it?

If customers don’t come to your premises, hide the address. Set a service area instead. Google asks service-area businesses to do this. 16 of the 36 electricians on the map in our check had their address hidden.

Should I show my Safe Electric registration online?

Yes. The CRU tells homeowners to always use a Registered Electrical Contractor and to find one on the Safe Electric website. Showing your registration on your profile and your pages answers that question before they ask it.

Which category should I choose on my Google profile?

For most, Electrician: 31 of the 36 electricians on the map in our check used it. If EV chargers or solar panels are a big part of your work, add those categories as secondary ones.

How long does SEO take for an electrician?

Fixes to your Google profile and website start in week 1. On an established site, leads usually pick up within about a month. A new website takes longer, so allow two to three months.

How much does SEO cost for an electrician?

Most electricians start with Get found at €250 a month plus VAT. It covers your Google profile, reviews, Irish listings and your first service pages, with no setup fee. See all prices. Paying for leads instead? See what Bark leads really cost in Ireland.
