What it takes to make Google’s top three in Longford: we checked 35 searches
On 27 October 2026, we searched Google Maps for 35 kinds of business with “Longford”. We had the map on the town and were signed out of Google. For each search, we noted the three businesses at the top and the next seven. We left out ads.
- The bar depends on what you doThe middle accountant on the map had 4 reviews and the middle plumber 5. The middle electrician had 11 and the middle hairdresser 86. Dentists needed 134 and restaurants 384.
- The most reviews rarely wonThe most-reviewed business came first in just 8 of 34 searches. For plumbers, the top three had 97, 5 and 1 reviews. Hardware and building suppliers with 444, 352 and 258 reviews came lower down.
- Shops take the trades’ spotsA business listed as a store came first for “plumber”. For “electrician”, an auto electrician and a business listed as a store came second and third. For “heating oil”, petrol stations took two of the top three.
- One firm, five searchesA drainage firm with 649 reviews showed up for “landscaper”, “plumber”, “skip hire”, “cleaning company” and “window cleaning”. It came first for two of them. Each category you add is another search you can show up for.
- Some searches leave townFor “locksmith”, Google went straight to a single locksmith in Athlone, about 35 km away. Only three opticians, three florists, three taxi firms and three tyre shops showed.

Accountants are the extreme. None of the ten on the map for “accountant Longford” had more than 6 reviews.

Around Longford: Ballymahon, Edgeworthstown, Granard and Lanesborough
Many Longford businesses work across the county. So we also searched four smaller towns, with “Co. Longford” added and the map on each town.
- One electrician covers the countyAn electrician that came sixth for “electrician Longford” came first in Edgeworthstown and Granard, and second in Lanesborough. Its profile showed as open 24 hours.
- Ballymahon has its ownOnly three businesses showed for “electrician Ballymahon”, and none of them showed for Longford. For “plumber Ballymahon”, two of the top three also show for Longford, and a pub came third.
- Salons stay localThe top three hairdressers in all three towns were local salons and barbers. In Ballymahon, they had 77, 25 and 9 reviews.

Why your Longford business isn’t showing on Google Maps
These are the problems we saw most. For the fixes in order, see our guide on how to rank higher on Google Maps.
- Fewer reviews than the middle businessCheck the three on the map for your own search. The middle one is your first target, not the leader.
- The wrong main categoryGoogle showed one vet clinic as a store and two motor businesses as chauffeur services. The category tells Google what you are. See choosing your Google Business Profile category.
- Google isn’t sure which LongfordThere’s a Longford in Tasmania and more than one in England, and Google’s suggestions show them. Put “Longford, Co. Longford” and your N39 Eircode on your profile and your pages.
- A pin in the wrong placeRural addresses around Longford aren’t always unique, so pins can land on the wrong house. See Eircode not showing on Google Maps.
- No service area for the places you coverWithout one, a Longford firm is less likely to show for Ballymahon or Granard.
- Hours that don’t match the searchPeople search “open now”, “opening Sunday” and “opening hours”. Keep your hours right, including bank holidays.
- One page for everythingA single services page can’t rank for every job and every town. Each one needs its own page.

Something else on your mind? Email info@leadsireland.com.
How much does SEO cost in Longford?
Our plans start at €250 a month plus VAT, with no setup fee. Every plan includes everything our free audit finds. See all prices.
How many Google reviews does a Longford business need?
Roughly as many as the middle business in the top three for your search. In our check, that was 4 for accountants, 5 for plumbers, 11 for electricians and 86 for hairdressers. Dentists needed 134 and restaurants 384.
Is SEO worth it for a small business in Longford?
For most trades, yes. In 17 of 34 searches, the middle business had 30 reviews or fewer, and 28 top-three spots went to businesses with fewer than 10. A complete profile, steady reviews and a good page can be enough to show up.
Do I need an SEO company based in Longford?
No. Local SEO is done online: your Google profile, your website and your listings. What matters is knowing how Longford’s results work. We work remotely, during Irish business hours, and reply within one working day.
Can a Longford business show up in Ballymahon or Granard?
For trades that travel, often. In our check, an electrician that shows for Longford came first in Edgeworthstown and Granard. In Ballymahon, local electricians held all three spots. Set a service area that covers the places you serve, then give the bigger ones a page each.
Why does Google show Longford in Tasmania?
Because there’s more than one Longford. Google suggested a Longford in Tasmania or England for 15 of the 18 trades we typed. Put “Longford, Co. Longford” and your N39 Eircode on your profile and website, and set a service area, so Google knows which one you’re in.
Can I add “Longford” to my Google business name?
Only if it’s part of your real name, as it appears on your signage and paperwork. Google’s rules don’t allow extra keywords in the name, and profiles that add them can be suspended. Put Longford in your service area, description and pages instead.
How long does SEO take?
Fixes to your Google profile and website start in week 1. On an established site, leads usually pick up within about a month. On a new site, allow two to three months.
Do you cover the rest of County Longford?
Yes. Plans cover Longford town and the whole county, from Ballymahon and Lanesborough to Edgeworthstown and Granard. We aim each page and profile at the towns you really serve.
