Why isn’t my website showing on Google in Ireland?
Usually it’s one of three things: Google can’t find or read your site, it’s skipping the page you care about, or the page is there but ranking too low to notice. Two quick searches tell you which, and most fixes take an afternoon. If it’s customers in Ireland who can’t find you, there’s a section on that too.

Google’s own advice is to check before assuming the worst: many sites that seem missing are just ranking low. Two searches tell you which problem you have.
Search Google for site:yourdomain.ie (your own address). Does anything come up?
Google doesn’t have your site at all. See “Google can’t find or read your site” below.
Go to question 2.
Search site: followed by the address of the page you care about. Is it there?
Google has your site but not that page. See “Google is skipping a page”.
It’s indexed but ranking too low to notice. See “It’s there, but nobody sees it”.
Google can’t find or read your site
Usually one setting, and usually quick to fix.
- The site is brand newGoogle says a new page can take anywhere from a day or two to a few weeks to appear. Set up Google Search Console, submit your sitemap, and allow at least a week before assuming there’s a problem.
- WordPress is telling Google to stay awayIn WordPress, Settings, Reading, there’s a box called “Discourage search engines from indexing this site”. Web designers tick it while building and often forget to untick it.
- A “noindex” tag was left behindThe same idea, set on individual pages or by an SEO plugin. Search Console’s URL Inspection tool shows it straight away.
- The site is behind a password or a “coming soon” pageGoogle can’t read what a visitor can’t open.
- robots.txt is blocking GoogleA small file at yourdomain.ie/robots.txt. A line saying “Disallow: /” under all user agents blocks the whole site.
Google is skipping a page
- Nothing links to itIf a page isn’t in your menu, your sitemap or linked from other pages, Google may never find it. Link to it from a relevant page.
- Google thinks it’s a duplicateIf two pages say nearly the same thing, or one page lives at two addresses, Google picks one and ignores the other. The URL Inspection tool tells you which one it chose.
- It’s too thin to bother withA page with a heading and two sentences often isn’t worth indexing. Search Console may report it as “Crawled – currently not indexed”.
- You moved or renamed it without a redirectOld addresses that now show an error lose everything they had built up. Google recommends 301 redirects from old addresses to new ones.
It’s there, but nobody sees it
Does your site show up for its own name, but not for “plumber Cork”? Then Google has it, but doesn’t think it’s the best answer for that search. That isn’t a technical fault. It’s a relevance and trust problem.
The usual causes are a single “services” page trying to rank for everything, or no page for the town or service people search. Another is a Google Business Profile and reviews that trail the businesses above you. Our guides on writing a good service page and ranking higher on Google Maps cover the fixes.
On Google, but missing from Irish searches?
If your site shows up for its own name but customers in Ireland still can’t find you, check three things: where you searched from, what Google shows for your town, and whether your site clearly says you’re in Ireland.
- Search the way your customers doGoogle’s results change with where you are and what you’ve searched before. Search signed out, in a private window, with the town in the search, like “electrician Tullamore”. If you’re not in Ireland, use Search Console instead: its Performance report can show only searches from Ireland.
- Your website is up against directories and FacebookWhen we checked 15 searches in Tullamore, businesses’ own websites took 46% of the ten ordinary results. Directories and review sites took 36%, and Facebook and Instagram 16%. A page about the exact service and town is how your site gets ahead of them. See how to rank on Google in Tullamore.
- Show Google you serve IrelandGoogle says a country domain like .ie is a strong signal of the country you’re targeting. It also looks at local addresses, phone numbers and currency. So on a .com especially, show your Irish address with its Eircode, an Irish phone number, prices in euro and the towns you cover. If Google Maps can’t find your Eircode, see Eircode not showing on Google Maps.
- Link your website to your profileIn Cork, all 81 businesses in the top three on the map, across the 27 searches we checked, had a website. Make sure yours is linked from your Google Business Profile. See SEO in Cork.

Bought the business, or took over the website?
Google warns that a site you buy or inherit can come with problems already attached. Examples are a manual action for spam, or a security issue. Search Console’s Manual actions and Security issues reports show both, with instructions for fixing them.
The same goes for a site moved to a new domain or from http to https. If old addresses weren’t redirected properly, rankings can drop overnight.
When to get help
Most of the first two sections you can fix yourself in an afternoon with Search Console. It’s worth getting help in three cases. You can’t find the cause, a site move or redesign has gone wrong, or the site is indexed but stuck below competitors. That’s our technical SEO service. A technical audit and every fix it finds come with every SEO plan. More in our website SEO guides.
Questions people ask
Something else on your mind? Email info@leadsireland.com.
How long does it take for a new website to show up on Google?
Google says it typically takes anywhere from a day or two to a few weeks for a new page to be crawled and indexed. Submitting a sitemap in Search Console helps, and Google suggests allowing at least a week before assuming there is a problem.
Why can’t people in Ireland find my website on Google?
Usually because it’s indexed but ranking low for Irish searches, or because the site doesn’t clearly show it serves Ireland. Check Search Console’s Performance report for searches from Ireland, build a page for each service and town, and show your Irish address, Eircode and phone number on the site.
How do I check if Google has my website?
Search Google for site: followed by your domain, for example site:yourbusiness.ie. If nothing comes up, Google has not indexed your site.
Why does my website show up for my business name but not my services?
Because Google has your site but doesn’t see it as the best answer for service searches. That usually means you need a clear page for each service, and a stronger profile and reviews than the businesses above you.
Do I need Google Search Console?
It’s free, and it’s the only way to see what Google itself says about your site. It shows which pages are indexed, which aren’t and why, and any penalties or security problems.
Can I pay Google to get my website listed?
No. Google doesn’t charge to index or rank websites in its normal results. Ads are a separate, paid product.
