Most of these come just before a deadline or a big decision. People compare a few firms’ websites, services and reviews, then ring or email the one that looks most approachable.

    What’s different for Irish accountants

    • Anyone can call themselves an accountantThe title isn’t protected in Ireland. A Private Member’s Bill to protect it was introduced in the Dáil in October 2025 and is at Second Stage. Until then, your professional body and practising certificate are how careful clients tell firms apart, so show them.
    • Revenue deadlines drive the searchesPeople search when Form 11, CT1 or VAT returns are due. Our page on SEO for solicitors and accountants has a year planner built around those deadlines.
    • Specialists win specialist searchesFarmers, contractors, landlords and start-ups all search for someone who knows their situation. A page for each group you serve wins searches a general page can’t.
    • Irish words for Irish clientsForm 11, CT1, preliminary tax, ROS, sole trader. Pages written the way clients here describe what they need match how they search.

Why you might not be showing up

    • No reviews, or very fewThe three on the map had a median of 6 reviews. In most towns, a few reviews from happy clients is all that separates you from the map.
    • The wrong main category29 of the 36 on the map used Accountant. If yours is Tax consultant or a business services category, Google has less to connect you with “accountant” searches.
    • One page for every serviceTax returns, company accounts, payroll and bookkeeping each need their own page to rank. That page also answers what clients ask before they ring. Our free topical map checker shows which pages you’re missing.
    • Your qualification is hiddenWith the title unprotected, clients look for a professional body. If they can’t see yours, they choose a firm that shows it.
    • No website5 of the 36 on the map had none. But the firms winning bigger clients have websites that explain their services and fees.

    Questions people ask

Something else on your mind? Email info@leadsireland.com.

How many Google reviews does an accountant need to get on the map?

Usually only a few. In our check of 12 Irish towns, the middle firm had 2 reviews in Sligo and Mullingar. In Dublin, it had 82. The three on the map had a median of 6 reviews. The firms just below them had 3.

Should I use Accountant or Chartered accountant as my category?

Accountant as the main one, for most: 29 of the 36 firms on the map in our check used it. Add the category that matches your qualification, such as Chartered accountant or Certified public accountant, as a secondary one.

Is “accountant” a protected title in Ireland?

Not yet. A Private Member’s Bill to protect the title was introduced in the Dáil in October 2025. It is at Second Stage. In the meantime, show your professional body. That’s how clients tell qualified firms apart.

Do I need a separate page for bookkeeping?

If you offer it, yes. We checked six towns. Only 5 of the 18 on the map for “bookkeeping” were also top three for “accountant”. Most used Bookkeeping service as their category. Give it a page of its own and add that category as a secondary one. That gives you a chance at both.

Can a small or new practice get on the map?

Very often. 24 of the 36 firms on the map in our check had fewer than 10 reviews. In Mullingar, all three had 2. A complete profile, the right category and a few reviews go a long way.

When should I publish tax guides?

A few weeks before each Revenue deadline, so they’re found and trusted by the time people search. Our page on SEO for solicitors and accountants has the deadlines laid out month by month.

How long does SEO take for an accountant?

Fixes to your Google profile and website start in week 1. On an established site, leads usually pick up within about a month. A new website takes longer, so allow two to three months.

How much does SEO cost for an accountant?

Our plans are €250, €450 or €900 a month plus VAT. No setup fee. Terms are one to three months. Lead engine is our pick for most firms. See all prices.
