The searches your patients type
People search for the problem, the treatment or the place. These are the kinds of searches a physio clinic should be winning:
Most patients search by the word “physio” or by the problem, not by a title. They book quickly when they find a clinic near them with good reviews and an easy way to book.
What it takes to make the top three on the map: we checked 11 Irish towns
On 23 October 2026 we searched “physiotherapist” and the town in 11 Irish towns, from Dublin to Letterkenny. We noted the three clinics Google showed on the map and the seven that came next. The three on the map had a median of 126 reviews. The next seven had 25. Galway is missing because Google’s results there showed no ratings or categories.
- The bar depends on the townThe middle physio on the map had 10 reviews in Athlone and 859 in Dublin. It had 26 in Mullingar, 27 in Letterkenny, 155 in Limerick and 483 in Cork. In 6 of the 11 towns, it was under 60.
- Newer clinics can get inIn Athlone, Mullingar, Letterkenny, Ennis and Sligo, a physio with fewer than 10 reviews made the three. In Athlone, four of the next seven had no reviews at all.
- Google has no Physiotherapist category26 of the 33 on the map used Physical therapist, the American term, and 6 used Physical therapy clinic. Type “physio” into Google’s category box and Physiotherapy equipment supplier comes first.
- Other businesses take physio spotsIn Athlone, a holistic medicine practitioner came third and a medical spa with 572 reviews came seventh. In Mullingar, a massage therapist with 197 reviews came ninth.
- “Physio” and “physiotherapist” bring up the same clinicsIn five towns, 13 of the 15 on the map for “physio” were also in the top three for “physiotherapist”. One strong profile and page can win both.
- Every clinic on the map had a website and showed its addressAll 33 did. Patients come to you, so the address belongs on the profile.

What’s different for Irish physios
- Physiotherapist is a protected titleSince 30 September 2018, only people on CORU’s register can call themselves a physiotherapist. Anyone can check the register online. Put your CORU registration on your profile, team page and treatment pages.
- Patients say physio, Google says Physical therapistWith no Physiotherapist category, your description, services and website are what tell Google, and patients, that you’re a physio. Use the words they use.
- People search by the problemBack pain, a sports injury, a knee after surgery, pelvic health. A page for each problem you treat wins searches the category can’t.
- Booking should take one tapIf patients can book online, link the booking page from your Google profile. Put it at the top of every page.
Why you might not be showing up
- Fewer reviews than the clinics above youThe three on the map had a median of 126 reviews, against 25 for the next seven. Outside the cities, the gap is often small enough to close in months.
- “Physiotherapy” is nowhere on your profileWith Physical therapist as your category, your description and services need to say physiotherapy and physio plainly.
- One page for every problemA single services page can’t rank for back pain, sports injuries and post-surgery rehab all at once. Our free topical map checker shows which pages you’re missing.
- No booking linkIf patients have to ring during clinic hours to book, many book with whoever lets them do it online.
- Your registration is hiddenIf people can’t see you’re CORU registered, the careful ones choose someone who shows it.

A typical plan for a two-physio clinic that wants more sports injury and back pain patients. In our check, the three clinics on the map in Kilkenny had 59, 333 and 53 reviews.
Month 1: fix the map
- Set the main category to Physical therapist and add Physical therapy clinic as a secondary one
- Say physiotherapy and physio plainly in the description, and list every service
- Add the online booking link and real photos of the clinic and team
- Set up call and booking tracking on the profile and website
Month 2: pages that win patients
- Publish pages for back and neck pain, sports injuries and knee rehab
- Ask every patient for a review at their last session, aiming to pass 60

- Match the details on Golden Pages, Bing and Apple Maps
Month 3: build trust
- Add a first visit page with fees, timings and what to wear
- Reply to every review, good or bad

How many Google reviews does a physio need to get on the map?
Roughly as many as the middle clinic in your town’s top three. Across 11 Irish towns, it ranged from 10 reviews in Athlone to 859 in Dublin. The three on the map had a median of 126 reviews. The clinics just below them had 25.
Why is there no Physiotherapist category on Google?
Google’s list doesn’t have one in Ireland. 26 of the 33 physios on the map in our check used Physical therapist, the closest match. 6 used Physical therapy clinic. Use one as your main category. Say physiotherapy plainly in your description and services.
Do I need separate pages for “physio” and “physiotherapist”?
No. We checked five towns. 13 of the 15 clinics on the map for “physio” were also top three for “physiotherapist”. One strong page that uses both words naturally wins both.
Should I show my CORU registration online?
Yes. Physiotherapist has been a protected title since 30 September 2018, and anyone can check CORU’s register. Showing your registration on your profile and team page answers that question before patients ask it.
Should I add a booking link to my Google profile?
If you take online bookings, yes. Patients who find you on the map can book straight away. You can also track how many bookings come from Google.
Can a new clinic get on the map?
Often, yes. In 5 of the 11 towns we checked, a physio with fewer than 10 reviews made the three. The right categories, a full profile and a page for each problem matter as much as reviews there.
How long does SEO take for a physio clinic?
Fixes to your Google profile and website start in week 1. On an established site, bookings usually pick up within about a month. A new website takes longer, so allow two to three months.
How much does SEO cost for a physio clinic?
Our plans are €250, €450 or €900 a month plus VAT, with no setup fee. Clinics with more than one location usually suit Area dominance. It includes up to 2 locations, and each extra one is €200 a month. See all prices.
