Is Bark worth it in 2026? What Irish businesses really pay for leads

Sometimes, for some trades. In Ireland, Bark charges €2.41 a credit, and every lead has its own credit price. Up to 5 businesses can contact the same customer, and you pay even if they never reply. Here’s how to work out what a job really costs you, and where the same customers search first.

What is Bark?

Bark is an online marketplace that matches customers with local businesses. A customer answers a few questions about the job. Bark sends the request to businesses that fit, and those businesses pay to contact the customer.

Bark is run by Bark.com Global Limited, a London company. It works in 10 countries, including Ireland, at bark.com/en/ie. People use it for trades, cleaning, gardening, personal training, photography and hundreds of other services.

There are two ways to pay. With credits, you buy a pack and spend credits on the leads you choose. With Bark Marketplace, you pay a monthly plan and customers contact you directly.

How Bark works for a business

  1. A customer asks for quotes. They answer Bark’s questions about the job, the town and when they need it done.

  2. Bark sends you the lead. You see the job, the area and the credit price before you pay. Tags like “Urgent” or “Verified phone” show how keen the customer is.

  3. You pay to respond. Your credits buy the customer’s phone number and email. Follow-up messages are free.

  4. Others can respond too. Bark lets up to 5 businesses contact each customer. You can see how many already have.

  5. You win the job, or you don’t. If the customer picks someone else or goes quiet, your credits are spent.

Bark help centre: each customer can receive up to 5 responses from professionals, and you can see how many have already responded before you buy
Bark’s help centre: up to 5 businesses can respond to each customer. The highlight is ours.

That fourth step matters most. Bark’s help centre says speed matters, because the sooner you respond, the less competition you face. So answering first matters, even at 9pm on a Sunday.

What Bark costs in Ireland

Bark’s standard price in Ireland is €2.41 a credit, with cheaper rates in bigger packs. Each lead has its own credit price, which you see before you pay. Bigger, specialist or urgent jobs cost more credits.

Bark’s guide to lead pricing lists four things that change the price. They are the type of service, the size of the job, the area and how ready the customer is to hire. Its own example: a weekly clean of a 4-bedroom house costs more than a one-off clean of a 2-bedroom flat.

Bark doesn’t publish a table of credits per lead. You only see the price on each lead, once you’ve signed up.

Bark’s Irish help centre, 28 October 2026. The highlight is ours. Credits bought since 1 November 2025 expire after 3 months.

The catches in the small print

  • Credits expire after 3 monthsThat’s for credits bought from 1 November 2025. Bark doesn’t refund unused credits.
  • You pay whether or not they replyBark won’t return credits because a customer went quiet or hired someone else.
  • Auto top-up buys more when you run lowIt’s handy, but switch it off if you want a fixed monthly budget.
  • Credit pack subscriptions run for up to 12 monthsAfter that, payments carry on unless you cancel. Cancelling in the first 3 months may stop you getting another one, Bark says.

The Starter Pack and the Get Hired Guarantee

New businesses start with the Starter Pack. Bark says it has enough credits to contact roughly 10 customers. If you use them and aren’t hired, Bark returns the credits you used, once.

There are conditions. You must have spent the credits, waited 3 days since your last lead, and not been marked as hired. And the Get Hired Guarantee returns credits, not money.

Elite Pro

Elite Pro is Bark’s paid upgrade. It gives you 20% off credit packs, 2 free leads a week and a higher place in Bark’s list of businesses. The free leads are ones nobody has answered after 48 hours.

What a job really costs you on Bark

Work it out per job you win, not per lead. Multiply the credits per lead by €2.41, add up the leads you paid for, then divide by the jobs you won.

Here’s an example, not Bark’s real price for your trade. Say a lead costs 10 credits. That’s €24.10 to contact one customer. If you win 1 job in every 5 leads, each job costs you €120.50 in credits.

Try your own numbers below. Use the credit price on your real leads, and the jobs you actually won.

0%Share of each job’s value

The starting numbers are an example, not Bark’s prices for your trade. Use the credit price shown on your own leads. Everything runs in your browser: nothing you type is sent anywhere.

    When Bark gives credits back

Only when the lead itself was bad. You have 14 days to ask, using Bark's online form, and Bark decides each case.

    Bark may return credits for

    • A wrong phone number or emailThe number doesn't work, or the email bounces.
    • A fake or mistaken requestIncluding requests from children, or from people who wanted the job done for free.
    • Wrong detailsThe wrong category, the wrong location or the wrong size of job.
    • Bots, phishing or competitors testingRequests that weren't from real customers.
    • Job seekersSomeone looking for work, not a service.
    • Abuse, accidents and double chargesAn abusive customer, a one-off accidental purchase or being charged twice.

    Bark won't return credits when

    • The customer hired someone elseBark calls this a normal part of the process.
    • The customer didn't replyA customer who doesn't answer isn't an invalid lead.
    • The job changed after you spokeIf the customer changed the scope, the lead still counts.
    • Your settings didn't filter itLeads outside your area or services should be filtered in your lead preferences first.

Before you spend anything, use the "Not interested" button on leads that don't suit you. It passes on the lead for free, and Bark tells the customer for you.

    What Bark's reviews say

Bark has a TrustScore of 3.8 on Trustpilot, from 112,295 reviews (28 October 2026). But most of those reviews come from people hiring, not from businesses paying for leads.

Bark invites its customers to review it, and 66% of its reviews are 5 stars. The 1-star reviews tell a different story. Of the 12 newest we read, at least 6 were from businesses that had paid for leads. Their main complaint was the same: customers who never replied.

So don't judge Bark by its overall score. Read the reviews from businesses like yours.

Where Bark finds its customers: Google

Often, from the same Google searches you could show up for. We checked 12 local searches in Google's Irish results on 28 October 2026. bark.com was on page one for 7 of them.

    1. "painters galway"3
    2. "landscaper kilkenny"5
    3. "tree surgeon wexford"5
    4. "plumber limerick"7
    5. "cleaners waterford"9
    6. "builder sligo"9
    7. "personal trainer cork"10
    8. "electrician cork"Not on page one
    9. "gardener dublin"Not on page one
    10. "roofer athlone"Not on page one
    11. "carpenter mullingar"Not on page one
    12. "wedding photographer kerry"Not on page one

How we counted: signed out of Google, skipping the ads and the map, then counting normal results from the top. Results change by location and over time.

Think about what that means. A customer in Galway searches for a painter. They land on Bark's page, fill in a form, and Bark sells that lead to up to 5 painters. If your own website or Google profile had shown up for that search, they could have rung you directly.

Google search for painters galway, with bark.com's Galway Painters & Decorators page highlighted below the map results; other results blurred
"painters galway" on google.ie, 28 October 2026. Bark's page sat just below the map. Other results are blurred.

In most of the searches where Bark wasn't on page one, local firms' own websites took the top spots. That's the same space your business can compete for.

Should you use Bark? A quick check

    1. 1Can you reply to new leads within the hour, every day?

NoThen you'll often pay to be the fourth or fifth business they hear from. Skip Bark for now.

    2. 2Is one job worth at least 10 times what a lead costs you?

NoMargins get thin fast. Put the money into your Google profile and website first.

    3. 3Will you track every lead, every euro and every job won?

NoWithout it, you can't tell if Bark pays. Keep a simple sheet before you buy anything.

    4. Yes to all threeTry one Starter Pack. Work out your cost per job won before you buy more credits.

    Signs it can pay off

    • bark.com shows up for your trade and townThen customers in your area are landing on Bark, and the leads are local.
    • Your jobs are bigA €3,000 job can carry a lead cost that would sink a €90 one.
    • You're new and have few reviewsBark can bring early jobs while you build your own Google reviews.
    • You reply fastBeing first to respond is the biggest edge you have on Bark.

    Signs it won't

    • You already show up on GoogleThen customers can already find you, with no fee per lead.
    • You don't track resultsCredits expire after 3 months, so untracked spending adds up quickly.
