AI tools now pick who gets the call
People now ask AI tools who to hire. In BrightLocal’s 2026 survey of US consumers, 45% had used ChatGPT or another AI tool to find a local business.
The answer usually names two or three businesses. If you’re not one of them, you’re not in the running.
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the work of getting into those answers. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode are built on Google Search. ChatGPT and Perplexity search the web their own way. All of them lean on the same things. That’s your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and what other sites say about you.
We tested it. On 27 October 2026 we asked Google’s AI Mode and ChatGPT who services oil boilers in Mullingar. Both named the same local firms. Their answers drew on each firm’s services, OFTEC registration, Google reviews and an Irish business directory. The full test is in our guide to GEO vs SEO pricing in Ireland.
What AI answers are built from
AI tools recommend businesses the web describes clearly. This is what they read, and what we work on.
- Your websiteA clear page for each service and each town you serve, with prices, areas and proof. AI tools quote pages that answer one question well.
- Facts, figures and sourcesThe researchers who named GEO found that adding sources, quotes and statistics made pages more visible in AI answers. Keyword stuffing did little or nothing (the GEO paper).
- Your Google Business ProfileCategories, services, hours and photos. Google’s own guide to AI features says to keep it up to date.
- Your reviewsWhat customers write, and how many. In our test, ChatGPT quoted a firm’s Google rating and review count.
- Matching details across IrelandThe same name, address and phone number on Irish directories. In our test, AI Mode cited an Irish business directory.
- Mentions on other sitesLocal news, trade bodies and suppliers that name you. Each one is another source that agrees about who you are.
We’ve seen this happen. ChatGPT cited a store Essa ran SEO for in-house 540 times, across 125 of its pages.
What an AI answer looks like for a local search
This is Google’s AI Mode answering a real customer question. It names a few firms, says why, and shows where it got the details.

What our GEO service includes
GEO is part of our Lead engine and Area dominance plans. You get everything below, with no separate GEO fee.
AI answers checked every month
We ask ChatGPT and Google’s AI Mode the questions your customers ask. You see the answers word for word, and who they named.
Content written to be quoted
Pages and posts that answer one question clearly, with facts, figures and sources. That’s the kind of text AI tools pick up and cite.
A page for each service and town
One clear page for each job you do and each town you really serve. Every search gets a clear answer on your site.
Your Google profile and reviews
A complete Google Business Profile and a steady flow of reviews that mention the job and the town.
Matching details everywhere
Your name, address and phone number the same on the main Irish directories. AI tools trust details that agree.
Crawl access, speed and schema
Speed, indexing and schema checked every month. We also make sure AI search crawlers can reach your site.
Calls and leads tracked
Calls and form leads tracked, so you can see what all this brings in.
Area dominance adds schema and entity setup for your business, and a monthly watch on 3 competitors you name. Prices exclude VAT.
One setting can hide you from ChatGPT
Before any writing, we check that AI search tools can actually read your site.
ChatGPT finds pages with its own crawler, called OAI-SearchBot. OpenAI says sites that block it won’t be shown in ChatGPT search answers.
A single line in your robots.txt file, or a security setting, can block it without you knowing. Blocking GPTBot is a separate choice. OpenAI uses GPTBot for training, and each setting works on its own.
Google is simpler. It says there are no extra requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. And blocking Google-Extended doesn’t affect your place in Google Search (Google’s crawler list).
Fixing crawl access is part of our technical SEO checks, done in the first week.

What we won’t sell you
Some GEO packages charge for things Google says it doesn’t need.
- A guaranteed spot in ChatGPTNobody controls what AI tools say. Anyone who promises a place in their answers is guessing.
- “AI-ready” schemaGoogle says no special schema.org markup is needed for its AI features. Normal schema that matches the page is part of good SEO.
- A monthly fee for an llms.txt fileGoogle says you don’t need AI text files to appear in its AI features. If you want one, it’s a quick job, not a retainer.
- A score with no answers behind itYou see what the AI tools actually said each month, not just a number.

GEO prices in Ireland, compared
On 27 October 2026 we checked the GEO prices of 10 Irish providers. Six published a monthly price.
| Irish agencies that publish a GEO price | Leads Ireland | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price a month | €500 to €895 | €450, on the Lead engine plan |
| How it’s sold | Usually its own monthly retainer | Part of your SEO plan, with no separate GEO fee |
| Top tier a month | €2,500 to €3,500 | €900, on the Area dominance plan |
| A first look at AI answers | One-off AI audits from €299 | A free AI visibility check, by email within 24 hours |

Example: the first three months of GEO
A typical order of work for a local business that doesn’t show up in AI answers yet.
Month 1: see where you stand
- Ask ChatGPT and AI Mode the questions your customers ask, and record who they name
- Make sure AI search crawlers can reach your site
- Fix your Google Business Profile and your details on Irish directories
- Set up call and form tracking
Month 2: give AI tools something to quote
- Write pages that answer your customers’ main questions, with facts and prices
- Add a clear page for each main service and town
- Start a steady flow of reviews that mention the job and the town
Month 3: check and build on it
- Ask the same questions again and compare the answers
- Write the next pages, based on what AI tools and Google still miss
- Report the answers alongside the calls and leads
An example of how we approach GEO, not a past client or a guaranteed result. What AI tools say is up to them.
How you’ll know it’s working
AI mentions are good to see. Calls and leads are what count.
- The answers, every monthThe questions we asked, what ChatGPT and AI Mode said, and who they named. Word for word, not a made-up score.
- Search ConsoleGoogle counts clicks from AI Overviews and AI Mode inside its “Web” report. There’s no separate AI number, so we don’t invent one.
- Calls and form leadsTracked on every page, so you see what the work actually brings in.

What are GEO services?
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is work that gets your business named or cited in AI answers. That means Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and similar tools. It covers your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and what other sites say about you.
How much do GEO services cost in Ireland?
Irish agencies that publish a price start at €500 to €895 a month. Top tiers run to €2,500 or €3,500. Ours is part of our Lead engine plan at €450 a month, or Area dominance at €900, plus VAT. There’s no setup fee.
Is GEO included in your €250 plan?
No. Get found covers your Google profile, reviews, listings and service pages, which all help. Monthly AI answer checks and content written for AI start with Lead engine, at €450 a month.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?
No. Nobody controls what AI tools say, so be wary of anyone who promises it. We make sure the web describes you clearly, and we show you the answers every month.
How long does GEO take to work?
About as long as SEO, because AI answers draw on the same websites, profiles and reviews. Technical fixes are done in the first week. On an established website, about a month is usually enough to start getting quality leads. A new website needs 2 to 3 months.
Do I need an llms.txt file or special schema?
Not for Google. Google says you don’t need AI text files or special schema.org markup to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. An llms.txt file does no harm, but it isn’t worth paying for.
Should I block AI crawlers on my website?
Not the ones that help you get found. OpenAI says sites that block OAI-SearchBot won’t be shown in ChatGPT search answers. Blocking GPTBot, which OpenAI uses for training, is a separate choice.
What’s the difference between GEO, AEO and AI SEO?
Mostly the name. All three mean getting your business named or cited in AI answers. We use GEO because it comes from the 2023 research paper that named it.
Will GEO replace SEO?
No. Google’s AI answers are built on Google Search, and other AI tools lean on the same websites, profiles and reviews. Good SEO is most of good GEO.
