Topical map checker

See which pages your website is missing. Pick your kind of business, then enter your website and the towns you want work in. The checker compares your pages with what your customers search for. That means the jobs you do, the problems they type, prices, proof and towns. You get a score and the first 5 pages to build, free, in about a minute.

Topical Map Checker

Free. About a minute. See which pages your website is missing.

We only read your public pages. Nothing is sent to us unless you ask for your full plan.

The short answer

A topical map is a plan of every page your website needs to cover your trade properly. That means a page for each job you do, and the problems and prices customers search before they ring. It also covers proof that you’re the real thing, and the towns you want work from. Google’s results show pages, not whole websites, so each missing page is a search you’ll struggle to show up for.

  • One page for each jobA single Services page that lists everything can’t rank for each job. A page about boiler servicing can.
  • Answer what people typeProblem and price pages reach people before they’re ready to ring, and send them to the job page that solves it.
  • Link it all togetherWhen every page links to the job it belongs to, Google sees one connected topic, not a pile of pages.

What the checker looks for

Each kind of business has its own map, with about 30 topics in six parts. The checker reads your sitemap and homepage, and matches your page addresses and link text to each topic. It also reads your homepage for things that don’t need a page of their own, like your registrations.

Part of your topicPlumber exampleWhat counts
Jobs you doBoiler servicing, heat pumps, emergency call-outsA page of its own for each job
Problems customers searchNo hot water, boiler losing pressureA page that answers it and links to the job
Prices and grantsNew boiler cost, the SEAI heat pump grantA price page or a price guide
Proof and trustReviews, photos of your work, RGI registrationA page, or a clear line on your homepage
Questions and guidesHow often to service a boilerA guide or a questions page
Areas you coverThe towns you type in, like Cork or DouglasA town page with real local detail

There are maps for plumbing and heating, electricians, roofers, dental practices, physiotherapy clinics, commercial cleaning companies and accountants. For anything else, pick Something else and we’ll build your map by hand and email it to you within one working day.

How the score works

Each topic is marked Must have, Important or Nice to have, worth 3, 2 or 1 points. Your score is the share of those points your website covers: 80 or more is strong, 60 to 79 is good, 35 to 59 is patchy and under 35 is thin.

A topic counts as covered when you have a page for it. Things like registrations, insurance and opening times count when your homepage says them clearly. If you only mention a job on your homepage, it still shows as missing, with a note. That’s because a mention can’t win that search the way a page of its own can.

No website yet? Tick “I don’t have a website yet” and you get the pages a new website should start with, most important first.

Why each job needs its own page

When someone searches “boiler service Cork”, Google looks for the page that best answers that search. A Services page with a line on each of eight jobs rarely wins it. A page about boiler servicing, with what’s included, the price, photos and reviews, often does.

Most small business websites have four or five pages: Home, About, Services, Contact and maybe a gallery. That’s four or five pages to cover every job you do in every town you work in. Start with the pages the checker marks Must have, then work down the list. Our guide to service pages has a template you can copy.

Town pages: only where you really work

Build a town page only for a place you really serve. Fill it with real local detail. Show jobs you’ve done there, how quickly you get there, local photos and reviews from customers in that town.

Pages that are copies of each other with the town name swapped can count as doorway pages under Google’s spam policies. And they help nobody. The checker looks for a page for each town you type in, up to five. It also lists any other town pages it finds on your website.

How to link the pages together

Links tell Google which pages belong together and which matter most. Point everything at your job pages.

  1. Put your main jobs in your menu. Then every page on your website links to them.
  2. Link problems, prices and guides to the job. A page about a boiler losing pressure should link to your boiler repair page, with the job’s name as the link text.
  3. Link each job to its proof. From each job page, link to its prices, your reviews and your contact page.
  4. Link each town to its jobs. From each town page, link to the jobs you do there.

Your full plan shows which pages should link to which, for every page on your map.

What the checker can’t tell you

It checks whether a page exists, not whether it’s any good. It reads page addresses, link text and your homepage, not every word on every page.

  • Pages it can’t findIf a page isn’t in your sitemap or menu, or your website blocks tools like this one, the checker can’t see it. Paste your page addresses into the checker instead.
  • Vague page addressesA page at /services-2/ called “Services” won’t match boiler servicing, even if that’s what it’s about. Clear addresses like /boiler-servicing/ help people and Google too.
  • Rankings, speed and your Google profileThe checker doesn’t look at these. A free SEO audit does.
  • Jobs you don’t doThe maps cover what customers search for most in each trade in Ireland. Skip anything that isn’t you.

When to get help, and what it costs

A full map for one trade is about 30 pages, plus one for each town you want work from. If you don’t have time to write them, or you’re not sure which to do first, it’s worth handing over.

Our Lead engine plan is €450 a month. It includes a full topical map of what your customers search, plus new service and location pages. You also get blog posts, and internal links built and kept in order. Extra service and location pages are €29 each on top of a plan, and extra blog posts €15. Prices exclude VAT. Not sure yet? Ask for a free SEO audit and Essa will tell you which pages to build first.

Questions people ask

What is a topical map?

A plan of all the pages a website needs to cover its subject fully, and how they link together. For a local business, that’s a page for each job, and the problems and prices customers search. Add proof that you’re the real thing, and the towns you work in.

How many pages does a small business website need?

Enough to give each job, problem and town you care about a page of its own. For most trades that’s about 30 pages, built up over a few months, most important first. The checker puts them in order for you.

Does my website matter if I already show up on Google Maps?

Yes. Your Google Business Profile does most of the work in the map results. Your website is how you show up in the ordinary results below the map and in AI answers. Google also uses it to understand what you do and where.

Is my website data stored?

The checker reads your public pages, the same way a search engine does, and we don’t keep your results. Robots files and sitemaps are cached for 15 minutes so a second check runs faster. Nothing is sent to us unless you ask for your full plan or a price. If you do, we get your name, email, website and the list of pages you’re missing, so we can follow up.

Why can’t it see some of my pages?

It reads the pages in your sitemap, or the links on your homepage if you don’t have a sitemap. If a page isn’t in either, or your website blocks tools like this one, paste your page addresses into the checker instead, one per line.

My kind of business isn’t on the list. Can I still use it?

Yes. Pick Something else and tell us what you do. We’ll build your topical map by hand and email it to you within one working day.

Is it free?

Yes. Your score and your top 5 missing pages are free, with no sign-up. The full plan is free too: leave your name and email and it shows straight away, and you can save it as a PDF.
